Bereavement leave

In the event of a family member’s death, you are entitled to the following days of paid leave:

• Up to five work days for the death of your mother, father, foster mother, foster father, sister, brother, spouse, child, mother-in-law or father-in-law . If the funeral occurs during your annual leave, the annual leave used to attend the funeral is reimbursed, to a maximum of five days.
• Up to three work days for the death of your grandchild or spouse’s grandchild. If the funeral takes place more than 320 km from Ottawa, you are granted an extra day of paid leave to attend the funeral.
• Up to one work day for the death of your sister-in-law or brother-in-law, or your or your spouse’s uncle, aunt, nephew, niece or grandparent. If the funeral takes place more than 320 km from Ottawa, you are granted an extra day of paid leave to attend the funeral.
