Article 25 : provisions for employees with disabilities

25.1 The Employer is committed to creating and maintaining an accessible barrier-free working, teaching and learning environment as well as the principles of integration, dignity and equality of opportunity for employees with disabilities, as indicated in Policy 119. The Employer agrees to act in accordance with the applicable legislation including the Ontario Human Rights Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

The Employer shall accommodate an Employee with the requirements of the Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act to enable an Employee with a disability to perform their workload duties, including assigning suitably located meeting rooms, classrooms and workspaces in order to perform the required work.

25.2 All Union benefits to Employees with disabilities shall be advertised in all University written materials specifically destined for Employees with disabilities. The appropriate texts to be supplied by the Union will be inserted into these University materials at the time of the first printing or reprinting of these materials after receipt by the University of the Union texts.

25.3 The Employer has a duty to accommodate Employees with disabilities, which may include access to equipment and resources to assist Employees in carrying out their duties. After being made aware of the Employee’s functional limitations, Health and Wellness will inform the Employee’s Academic Unit’s Chair who will work with the Employee, their Supervisor, and when requested by the Employee, the Union, to develop an accommodation plan.

25.4 The Employer has a multi-year accessibility plan under the AODA that includes wheelchair-accessible and gender neutral facilities (including but not limited to bathrooms and change rooms). The Employer will regularly update the online university map which details the location of these facilities and ensure that the map is accessible on their website.

25.5 The Employer has a multi-year accessibility plan under the AODA that includes wheelchair-accessible buildings. The Employer will regularly update the online university map which details the location of wheelchair accessible parking, and lists of all buildings and their wheelchair accessibility status.
