Leave without pay
Leave without pay must be planned well in advance. Talk to your supervisor and Human Resources as soon as possible!
If you are a librarian at the University, you may request and be approved for leave without pay for up to six months. In some exceptions, leave without pay may be extended past the six-month period.
When you return to work, you assume the position you held before your leave. However, the time spent on approved leave does not count towards your years of service with the University.
While on leave without pay, you may continue your participation in group insurance benefits provided you notify Human Resources of the benefits you would like to maintain and you pay all required contributions, including those normally paid by the University.
Request and approval
To request leave without pay, you must complete a leave form and submit it to your unit head and the University Librarian at least 30 days before the anticipated start of the leave. Your request must include the date and duration of the leave, and the reasons for the leave.
