Contact Human Resources within 31 days of your status becoming official to report this change as it could have an impact on your benefits and your pension plan.

Group insurance plan

After 12 months of cohabitation, a common-law relationship or marriage is an event that, according to the University insurer, might allow you to change your benefits coverage (health care plan, dental plan, etc.). To do so, contact Canada Life within 31 days of the date your status changes. Otherwise, you might have to wait until another eligible event occurs. To register your life event, go to the Canada Life Secure Site.

  • Beneficiary designation
  • Co-ordination of benefits
  • Dependent life and optional life insurance coverages

To have your spouse recognized for the pension plan, complete and return the following form to Human Resources (Pension sector) at hrpension@uOttawa.ca or via internal mail:

Supporting information

  • Proof of cohabitation (any document issued by a municipal, provincial or federal government) OR
  • A copy of your marriage certificate
