Procedure 18-47

GROUP BENEFITS - Eligibility:
  • To be eligible to participate in Group Benefits, other than the Health Care Spending Account (HCSA), staff members must have accumulated 1 year of Continuous Service or have signed an employment contract with the University for a contract period of 2 years or more; and be a resident of Canada or a Canadian resident who is temporarily visiting or working outside of Canada and on whose behalf arrangements have been made to ensure that their provincial health insurance plan or equivalent University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) remains in force; and
  • Staff members must have 3 years of Continuous Service and participate in Group Benefits to be eligible to participate and receive a Health Care Spending Account (HCSA). In such case, the annual amount of the HCSA will be the same as the regular non-unionized staff members and will be provided on the 1st day of the month following the completion of 3 years of Continuous Service. Staff members will have their allocated amount prorated for the first calendar year;
