Sick leave

Sick leave is available for periods when you are unable to perform your regular work duties due to illness or an accident.

While on sick leave, you are entitled to 100% of your full pay and benefits for up to 2/12 of your total assigned work in each course. You may accumulate unused sick leave from the two previous academic years, to provide a maximum sick leave benefit of 4/12 of any assigned course.

If you have a Long Term Appointments you accumulate paid sick leave at a rate of one half-day per month pro-rated to the number of hours you work.

Conditions

To benefit from sick leave, you must meet the following conditions:

  • Advise your supervisor at the beginning of the absence. Should you work shifts, advise your supervisor at least two (2) hours before the beginning of your shift.
  • Should you be absent for three (3) working days or more, you must submit a medical note to the Health and Wellness sector of Human Resources.

Medical examination

At any time during your sick leave, the University may require that you undergo an independent medical examination by a University-appointed doctor to determine if you are eligible for sick leave benefits. The University pays for the examination.
