President’s Awards for Service Excellence

Each year, the President recognizes employees who have consistently demonstrated creativity and shown initiative in meeting client needs and improving the university experience.

Each year, the University recognizes its commitment to service excellence and improving the university experience through its individual and team President’s Awards.

This year, the nomination deadline is March 30, 2020.

Individual award

Objectives

  • To highlight the key role staff members play in enriching the quality of the university experience.
  • To recognize staff members who:
    • Look for ways to defy the conventional, improve service quality and provide solutions that meet clients’ needs
    • Give expression to the University’s vision of service excellence
    • Stand out because of the exceptional quality of the service they provide

Prizes

This award consists of four $1,000 prizes (taxable) and a commemorative plaque for each of them.

Eligibility

All support staff members are eligible, regardless of their job level and category (contract or permanent). Two prizes are awarded to staff members in the faculties and two are awarded to staff members in the services.

Nominations

  • Nominations must have the nominee’s consent.
  • Nominations can come from groups or from individuals, including managers, colleagues, professors, students, students’ parents or members of the general public.
  • Employees cannot nominate themselves.
  • Nominations must be approved and signed by the candidate's immediate supervisor. Then it must be also approved and signed by the Dean, Vice-President, Associate Vice-President or Director of service before it is sent to Human Resources.

Nominations must include

  • A description of the nominees’s exceptional contribution to service excellence that helps improve the university experience. The description must objectively portray the nominee’s accomplishments during the year or achievements that illustrate ongoing service excellence over multiple years.

    NOTE: The President’s Award for Service Excellence (individual) must be completed.

  • Two letters or statements of support describing the nominee’s exceptional contribution to service excellence to improving university experience (maximum 250 words each).
  • Contact information for the nominators, immediate supervisor, Dean, Vice-President, Associate Vice-President, Director of service and nominee.

Selection

The candidate stands out among their peers and makes an exceptional contribution to fulfilling the University’s vision of service excellence by:

  • Finding solutions
  • Reflecting a positive attitude
  • Exercising skill and professionalism
  • Valuing the members of the University community
  • Acting benevolently and with regard
Each criterion weights 20%.

Team award

Objectives

  • To highlight the key role teams play in enriching the quality of the university experience.
  • To recognize teams who:
    • Are innovative in the area of service excellence and defy the conventions by finding new ways to transform the service experience
    • Create programs, policies and services that give expression to the University’s vision of service excellence
    • Stand out because of the exceptional quality of the service they provide

Prizes

This award consists of two team awards and a commemorative plaque for each of them.

Eligibility

All teams, whether they are from a faculty or service or involved in a multidisciplinary project, are eligible for the award. One prize is awarded to a team in a faculty and one is awarded to a team in a service.

Nominations

  • Nominations must come from clients of the team through the official President's Award for Service Excellence form.
  • Teams cannot nominate themselves.
  • An executive member (Dean, Vice-President, Associate Vice-President or Director of service) must approve the nomination before it is sent to Human Resources.

Nominations must include

  • A description of the team’s exceptional contribution to service excellence that helps improve the university experience. The description must objectively portray the team’s accomplishments during the year or achievements that illustrate ongoing service excellence over multiple years. It is necessary to complete the President's Award for Service Excellence (team) form.
  • Two letters or statements of support describing the team’s exceptional efforts (maximum 250 words).
  • Contact information for the nominators, those providing letters of support, the executive member and the nominees.

Selection

The team stands out among their peers and makes an exceptional contribution to fulfilling the University’s vision of service excellence by:

  • Finding solutions
  • Reflecting a positive attitude
  • Exercising skill and professionalism
  • Valuing the members of the University community
  • Acting benevolently and with great care

Each criterion weights 20%.

Selection and awarding of prizes

Selection of recipients

The selection committee will:

  • Prepare a shortlist of up to five individual award nominees whose contribution to service excellence truly stands out.
  • Prepare a shortlist of up to three team award nominees for both faculty and service teams whose contribution to service excellence truly stands out.
  • Submit the shortlist to the president, who then makes the final decision on the winners.

Awarding of prizes and recognition of recipients

Recipients of the President’s Award for Service Excellence will receive a personal invitation to the awards ceremony to be held during the Founders’ Breakfast, on May 1, 2019. The president will present the winners with their award and briefly highlight their accomplishments.

An article on the recipients will also be featured in the Gazette and each recipient will receive a letter of congratulations from the President.
