Sick leave

Sick leave is available for periods when you are unable to perform your regular work duties due to illness or an accident.

You accumulate paid sick leave at a rate of one day per month. A maximum of 12 days of sick leave will be carried forward to the next year, but at no time can the accumulated sick leave exceeds 12 days. While on sick leave, you are entitled to 100% of your base salary and benefits for a period up to the amount of sick leave you have accumulated. If you have not accumulated enough sick leave, you may use your annual leave or go on leave without pay for the remaining days you are absent.

Conditions

To benefit from sick leave, you must meet the following conditions:

  • Advise your supervisor at the beginning of the absence. Should you work shifts, advise your supervisor at least two (2) hours before the beginning of your shift.
  • If you are asked to provide a medical certificate, send it to the Health and Wellness sector of Human Resources.

Medical examination

At any time during your sick leave, the University may require that you undergo an independent medical examination by a University-appointed doctor to determine if you are eligible for sick leave benefits. The University pays for the examination.
