Retired support staff – Changes to the group insurance plan (effective May 1, 2017)

The changes are part of the University’s ongoing efforts to harmonize group insurance plans so that all can enjoy a similar coverage.

Note: Bridging benefit from date of retirement to attainment of age 65.

Extended health plan

Current coverage New coverage
  • Out-of-Canada:
    • Lifetime maximum at $500,000
  • Vision care:
    • No coverage
  • Paramedical coverage:
    • At $300 per year
  • Generic substition:
    • Not specified
  • Psychological services:
    • $50 per visit up to a maximum of $1,000 per year
  • Out-of-Canada:
    • Lifetime maximum at $5,000,000
  • Vision care introduced:
    • Coverage of $250 every two years for vision care expense (apart from vision examination)
    • Coverage of $80 every two years for vision examinations
  • Paramedical coverage at $400 per year for the following groups:
    • Chiropractor, naturopathy and osteopathy
    • Message therapy
    • Physiotherapy and speech language therapy
    • Podiatry
  • Change to include generic substitution (automatic); generic drug equivalents is dispensed when available unless otherwise prescribed by the treating physician
  • Psychological services:
    • Up to 50% per visit to a maximum of $1,000 per year
